Introduction:

What do you get when you cross the looks of classic black-grey denim and a cosy wool flannel? The perfect Deep Blue Denim Flannel - Wool & Cotton.

This first-rate fabric is suitable for a wide range of clothing styles whether you prefer seriously smart or slouchy/casual pieces. Deep Blue Denim Flannel, woven by fine Italian craftsmen for a famous high end British fashion house and has a designer pedigree. Ideal for a range of different styles with plenty of suitable sewing patterns and perfect for cross-seasonal wear. After all, wool is naturally temperature regulating!

Colour:

The combination of rich deep blue-black hues in this woven multipurpose fabric produce an all-over dark deep blue lake tone. Versatile smoky hues are predominant throughout this first-rate Italian woven wool (48%) and cotton (52%) light-mid weight flannel.

Properties:

Woven with a smart and hard-wearing twill weave from fabulously soft and lightly brushed yarns. Deep Blue Denim Flannel boasts a dense (lightly felted) feel with a stable handle and delicious soft drape that will keep you cosy and comfortable however you choose to style it, due to its soft face and reverse sides.

Garment Suggestions:

Denim styles are no longer considered only for workwear. Top designers create whole collections from denim-style fabrics that look equally at home in chic city settings or for relaxing downtime wear, and this wool-enriched wonder will keep you warm too.

Patterns ideal to use alongside this smoky flannel are: The Cordelia Trousers (a great alternative to your jeans), add a matching Jemima Waistcoat and team them with a smart roll neck top for cosy A/W separates. Paper Theory's Zadie Jumpsuit is an ideal piece for both dressing up and dressing down.

All-in-one pieces are fabulous when you need comfort and don't want to think too much about how to style separates, The Lynsey Dungarees are a satisfyingly safe make and will be so comfy and cosy in this snug durable flannel. Add contrasting stitching for subtle detail. Utilise the soft drape quality and create cosy pleated or gathered skirt and dress styles, simple denim look shirts and shirt dresses and so much more!

This fabric is also available in a charcoal & misty grey colourway too. Tap here to view before it sells out!

Fabulous fabric. Washes & irons really well, and wonderful to work with. I used the Fabric Mood PAX pattern to sew cargo trousers, a casual style with smart looking material, great combo. Love the dark denim look with lighter material, perfect for spring. Thanks to George for his help on chat to choose this fabric, great advice!

Buy some of this!

Very beautiful soft deepest midnight blue, looks like denim, feels like wool flannel. I was uncertain whether I could wash it, so I tested a small sample square at 30 degrees and it was fine -- the fabric doesnt shrink, just gets softer and lovelier! This is destined for an autumn/winter Zadie jumpsuit, can't wait.

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
