Blazing fires and darkest navy skies, Fire & Brimstone - Double Faced Wool Coating conjures images of dark and devilish things, but this super soft and cosy double-faced brushed and felted wool twill also brings thoughts of Halloween fun, Trick or Treating, Pumpkin-Jack O'Lanterns fire hued autumn leaves and will certainly bring a smile to those who make Autumn/Winter creations in this orange and darkest navy coating fabric.

Our fantastically versatile Fire & Brimstone gives you the opportunity to create superb reversible coats, capes, wraps, coatigans and much more! Made in a close twill weave with a snug, cosy brushed feel, the fire orange-toned wool is cleverly woven with the darkest navy on the other side. This excellent fabric has a very stable handle and a soft, yet dense drape. When cut, the edges will fray so binding or creating felled seams or some other suitable treatment for the edges will be necessary on reversible garments.

Think coatigans, cocoon coats with felled seams - turned back cuffs and contrasting pocket details will complete the look. Jump on the worker/utility style trend wagon and create jackets and shackets (oversized outerwear shirts) with lots of pockets and practical details. This naturally warming 81% Wool fabric feels more like polar fleece than wool but will keep your temperature regulated and shrug off light showers. Perfect for hoodie, Gillet and pullover styles not forgetting bomber jackets with contrasting cuff, neck and hip bands.

Or why not try a classic duffle coat style and add contrasting leather & toggles.

Capes and simple wraps will make versatile and excellent cosy winter garments that will become perennial favourites!

This versatile fabric could also be used for blankets & throws for your home use your scraps for fun Halloween projects; fabric pumpkins, fancy dress costumes for the little ones and don't forget the dog!

Firm but soft fabric.

I've loved working with this material, it's beautifully firm but soft with a lovely draping quality. I havent finished my garment yet but so far there has been no fraying of the fabric. Great value for the price. Well done Fabworks, your service has been excellent.

Fire and Brimstone

Sent for a few a samples first as was looking for a heavy weight wool to make a blanket, this is a lovely fabric and has made up beautifully. I had recently purchased a wool blanket from John Lewis of which I'm very pleased with but felt as I wanted more than one it would be worth looking at other options. Fire and Brimstone was a far better fabric and half the price of the purchased John Lewis blanket ,the parcel arrived within a couple of days from Fabworks as normal. The company are very helpful on email with enquires but I love visiting the shop when possible .I think when purchasing online the samples are a must ,they come very quickly and are a decent size so avoiding costly mistakes. This is just such a lovely company to deal and its always my first go to place

Why choose wool fabric?

Benefits of sewing with Wool! 🐑

We love wonderful wool! Why? Because it looks beautiful, well yes but did you know wool has a series of superpowers that make it the most incredible natural fibre, suitable for more garment suggestions and sewing inspiration than possibly any other?

Wool has a unique naturally crimped 3D structure which attributes to some brilliant properties & makes it a great fabric to wear throughout all the seasons.

Naturally Breathable: This amazing 3D crimped structure promotes air circulation allowing air to pass through the fabric, allowing for circulation and ventilation for your skin to breathe, keeping you cool.

Shower Resistant: Sheep naturally produce a waxy substance called lanolin. As sheep live outdoors, this naturally occurring wax helps to protect sheep from the elements, naturally shedding water & keeping them dry. This same property is retained within the wool fibres when spun into yarn.

Moisture Absorbing: The moisture-retentive superpowers of wool! It’s hydrophilic core gives wool the ability to wick away moisture keeping you dry and comfortable – this possibly one of our favourite properties because you can stay fresh when wearing wool, from autumn right through to spring!
